Danar: /* Examine details */ Updated farming tooltip level to 30 (The tooltip displaying at 15 skill is listed as a bug)

Main / Skills / Nature / PAGENAME

Description
The farming skill covers tending fields, sowing and harvesting the crops. Crops can take several days to grow, during which a farmer should farm the field tiles to remove weeds. This will improve the harvest. Quality and amount of the harvest increases when you have a high farming skill. Quality of the seed also effects the growth time of the fields.

The seeds needed to start farming can be found while botanizing or from harvesting the crops. Harvested cotton, wemp and pumpkin must be picked to recover seeds for replanting.

Crops can be harvested at any time after the first growth level, but harvesting too early or too late results in zero return. When a field reaches optimal height it will be the same height as a small barrel, no taller, no shorter. The colour of the field is also possible marker, as it changes to a yellowish-green or golden when ripe.

The maximum slope on which you can sow seeds is 8; attempting to sow seeds on a greater slope results in a message "The ground is not flat enough for crops to grow. You need to flatten it first". The slope does appear to effect growth speed, but crop quality is unknown.

Sowing on a sloped tile takes into account its compound slope, however. That is, it's slope both North-South (NS) and East-West (EW). For example, the slope can be level EW and 8-steep NS. Or 4-steep EW, 4-steep NS etc.

Examine details
Anyone can verify if a field needs tending. "The crops grow steadily" means the field is in order, while "It could use a touch from the rake or some other farming tool" means it must be tidied with a rake. If the description mentions "rotting old weeds", the field is overgrown and can no longer be harvested.

Level 10 farmers can determine which type of crop is growing in a field, except at the lowest growth level ("freshly sown").

Players with a farming skill of 30 or more can determine when a field is ready to harvest by activating a farming tool. The growth status of nearby tiles can be seen in the tool-tip when hovering over the tile.

The stages displayed (in order) are:
# Freshly sown
# Sprouting
# Growing
# Halfway
# Almost ripe
# Ripe
# Only weeds

Level 20 farmers can determine the growth level of a field. The levels are, chronologically sorted:

# You see a patch of freshly sown field.
# A few green blades pop out of the ground.
# Small sprouts with many blades grow here.
# The sprouts are growing, a bit above half their mature height.
# The field is almost at full height.
# The field is at full height and ready to harvest!
# The field is at full height and ready to harvest! (Used to be: The field is overaged, and some crop has been ruined.)
# (rotten old weeds, crops completely ruined)

Level 60 farmers can determine the number of items they will get after a harvest when they examine the field. It should be noticed however that the number it shows it not very accurate but more of a minimum since luck and other factors change the final number.

Tools
* Rake for farming
* Scythe for harvesting wheat, barley, oat and rye
* Small barrel to indicate perfect harvesting time; the crops will be the same height, or slightly higher than a small barrel when ready to harvest.

Farming Products
* Barley
* Corn
* Cotton
* Garlic

Main / Skills / Nature / Meditating

Meditation
To meditate, use a meditation rug. Skill builds to 20 on all tiles, after that you have to join a path to get further skillgain. Once you have 20 skill, skill-gain is limited to 5 times every 3 hours.

Paths
Starting and Following a Path
On certain tiles, there can be a pop-up after finishing meditating that allows you to start a path. There are thought to be many paths, though some are more easily found than others. Verified paths are: Knowledge, Power, Insanity and Love. There are also rumoured to be the Path of Honor.

To join a path you need to have at least 15 meditating skill.

Once you are on the path, a title will appear next to your name, similar to the champion title. Each step of the path brings a new title. At each step, you must wait for an increasing amount of time before you can advance to the next step on the path. Times between steps are shown in the section on Titles below. You can only follow 1 path.

The message you get to start each path seems to take the following form: "As you meditate upon these things you realize that there is a pattern of thinking that you can try to follow. If this path contains the truth or simply the figment of someone's imagination, you do not know. Nonetheless, it may pose an interesting challenge. Do you wish to embark on the philosophical journey of the path of X? If you answer yes, you will be challenged by the selected path as you visit more places like this one and mediate.". Answering yes will make you an adherent of that particular path, with the title of Uninitiated.

For the subsequent questions of each path, the dialog starts as follows: "If the path of X contains the truth or simply is the figment of someone's imagination, you do not know. Nonetheless, it poses an interesting challenge. The following question springs to mind", and is then followed by a new question with five possible answers.
Get Info
You get the option on living creatures and characters. You seem to only be able to use this option once every 20 hours.

"You decide to classify the Adolescent fat Haltchaser using numbers.<br>
Stamina level 65535, damage level 0.<br>
Hunger value 36001, fat level 126, nutrition level 90.0, thirst level 0, dominated by none, loyalty level 0.0.<br>
Kingdom is no known kingdom, leader is none, hitched to none<br>
Not busy doing anything.<br>
Adolescent fat Haltchaser targets none, and fights none"<br>

Clean Wound
You get the option on wounds. This will clean the wound of any Rotten Touch "You gleefully clean the wound."

If the wound is not dirty or infected it will not clean the wound.

Trap Immunity
You get the option on your Body (in your inventory). This will make you immune to traps for 30 minutes.

Refresh
You get the option on other players. This will restore the players food/water 100% and give them 99.99 nutrition.

Erupt
You get the option on rock and cliff tiles. The tile is transformed into a lava tile. You don't need to be on the tile you want to transform, just next to it. The lava tile won't flow down a hill and will dry up after 5 days.

Messages
*You fail to relax.

Others
*You recently meditated here and need to find new insights somewhere else.
You need to move 10 tiles in one direction to meditate again when you get this message. Note that you can still join a path after meditating even if you receive this message, so it can be safely ignored if you aren't looking for skill.
*This is indeed a special place.
You have found a special tile that belongs to a path. (no message on special tiles of the path of insanity)
*You decide to start pursuing the insights of the path of knowledge
Message you get if you choose yes in a path dialog (see above)
*You still need to let your progress sink in for several hours / days / more than a week
After meditating again on a special tile (after choosing path dialog) you get this message on top of the recent meditation message.
*You gain no inspiration here for your own path.
If you meditate on a special tile that is on a path other than the one you have chosen you will receive this message.
*You should return here when you have become better at meditating.
You have found a "special tile" but do not have the required skill to start a path.
Walking on Stone slabs is the fastest way of travelling (up to 17.3Km/h). Stone slabs can only be removed or terraformed by a player with a premium account. Stone slabs are usually very flat, much more so than normal grass tiles or even that of cobblestone. Paving with slabs is fairly difficult compared to other pavements due to the simple fact that it requires slabs. For these reasons, only roads of the highest quality, decorative tiles, flooring of structures, and courtyards are usually made of slabs.

Slab tiles have a chance of decaying if they are not walked upon for 2 days.

Main / Skills / Paving

Description
Paving is the skill needed to pave dirt for faster travel.

Road construction is very important in Wurm, it lets you go places - fast. On a paved road you can reach speeds up to 17.31km/h compared to the 11km/h on grass and less then half of that on sand. That in combination with finding your way around (which many seem to have trouble with in Wurm) makes it pretty obvious that roads are a good thing to have.

Items required
* Rock Shards for making Gravel
* Stone Brick for making Cobblestone
* Slab for making Stone slabs
* Floor boards for making Wooden planks

Method
Paving is done on Packed dirt. Simply activate the item you want to pave with, right-click the tile and choose 'pave'.

Paved tiles can be converted back to Dirt by equiping a shovel and choosing 'destroy pavement'. Vynora frowns upon such actions, however. Body strength of 20 is needed for destroying pavement.

Levelling
To make a road level to walk on (so does not slope to one side), stand on the higher of the two sides and examine the tile border that crosses the road to the lower side. You will need to do some combination of digging the higher side and dropping dirt on the lower side to bring this to "this slope is level".

In normal grassy areas, it may be possible to simply choose 'flatten' on each tile as you walk along the road, but this often does not work because of rock, uneven numbers of dirt, lack of dirt in your inventory or low digging skill. A player with a higher digging skill may also flatten paved tiles of any type provided they're not too close to a building / wall or on deeded land where they do not have permission. The dig & dump method however will always work, unless there is a fence preventing dirt from being dropped. It may also be possible that a road has to be placed near a 30+ slope, in that case, it's better to flat-raise to flatten your tile because any dirt dropped will slide down.

When using flatten, one may find it handy to 'stop' the flatten action once the slope hits the desired value, instead of allowing the entire flatten to take place. This can make evening out slopes along a hill much faster.

Slopes
The optimal road slope is 20. Any slope greater than 20 may physically hurt you if you travel down the road at full speed.

A road with a slope of 24+ is self-defeating and fairly useless.

Walking on cobblestone is the fastest way of traveling on foot (up to 17.3Km/h on a flat tile). Cobblestone can only be removed or terraformed by a player with a premium account. Cobblestone is easier to create than stone slabs, which has an identical travel speed. For these reasons, cobblestone is widely used when making permanent roads, paths, or courtyards. <br>
Cobblestone tiles have a chance of decaying if they are not walked upon for 2 days.
Making cobblestone
# Activate a Stone Brick

Damage is used to illustrate the concepts of wear-and-tear on items. Most items will accumulate damage when left outside, though this process can be slowed with the use of containers. Containers made from cedar trees are particularly good at protecting items.

Some items are damageable through player actions as well. Most tools will take damage and require repair from usage or failed improvement. Walls, fences, and player structures can take damage from direct player attacks.

Should your character sustain damage (being attacked by wildlife or other players, by falling etc.), any medium wounds (you can find your wounds on your body in your inventory) or worse are likely not to heal by themselves. You can heal them by casting healing spells (See Religion) or by using rags as bandages, it's also possible to use healing covers to heal.

Damage reduces the effective QL of an item to QL * (1 - DMG/100). Example: A QL 20.8 log with 26.0 damage will only give QL 15.4 kindling.
Seems they are always a new drowning wound, I have had 15+ on my torso at once and they never stacked.
Also, it actually seemed like this heal slower to me. (not actually measured though, just a hunch)
Perhaps the healing was slower because you were out of stamina?
I lead a tame dog while on a boat from Kinsaitos to a kilometer east of Samling.
That journey was all on water, and the dog swam the entire time. It is safe to say dogs are not affected by drowning.
Further testing with bears and crocodiles will be required before we are certain animals don't drown.
This also could mean tame animals can't drown and wild animals can.
Danar:
Drowning wounds are displayed as fire damage ATM, they seem to stack each other now but I am unsure if it stacks with FA damage or lava damage. The latter might be untestable since lava damage is applied to the feet and drowning is not. Also not sure if they never stack with regular wounds or if animals just don't normally target the wound.
<key> is based on Java key constants. Letters and numbers represent themselves. For other keys, search the full KeyEvent list if you can't guess the correct name. Meta keys can also be specified, e.g. <tt>shift-tab</tt> or <tt>ctrl-alt-w</tt>. Available meta keys are Ctrl, Shift and Alt. It is not possible to bind only meta keys.

<action> is based on an internal client list. The known values are based on autorun.txt. == Key binds ==

The bind commands require special values as input.

The "Alt Gr" key is treated as Alt (if your keyboard has one). The non-meta key must always be the last key in the combination. It is not possible to bind only meta keys.

<action> is based on an internal client list. The known values are based on autorun.txt. They are: <tt>NEXT_TAB, TOGGLE_CHAT, AUTORUN, CENTER_VIEW, TURN_DOWN, TURN_UP, TURN_LEFT, TURN_RIGHT, MOVE_FORWARD, MOVE_BACK, MOVE_LEFT, MOVE_RIGHT, STRAFE</tt>

In November 2007, more "keys" were added: <tt>FIGHT_DEFENSIVE, FIGHT_NORMAL, FIGHT_AGGRESSIVELY, TOGGLE_CLIMB, TOGGLE_FAITHFUL, TOGGLE_LAWFUL, ACTIVATE_TOOL1, ACTIVATE_TOOL2, ACTIVATE_TOOL3, ACTIVATE_TOOL4, ACTIVATE_TOOL5</tt> (there was no key option for spam mode)

In March 2008, more "keys" were added: <tt>TOGGLE_FIGHT_SPAM, GLANCE_LEFT, GLANCE_RIGHT, NO_TARGET, PREVIOUS_TAB, NEXT_WINDOW, PREVIOUS_WINDOW, EXAMINE, TAKE, DROP</tt>
