Main / Skills / Nature / PAGENAME

Description
Animal husbandry allows for the production (breeding) of new creatures, sometimes with increased quality, without the need to wait for new spawns.

Grooming
* Grooming is a way to reduce the risk of disease in animals. It gives Animal Husbandry skill.
** Activate a grooming brush and select groom while right-clicking on a groomable creature. This can be done to each animal once per hour.
** Grooming can be done while moving (and while mounted), so long as you do not move too far away (two tiles) from the tile you are currently working on.
** At AH level 40, players can see exactly when an animal can be groomed, e.g. inline

Fly catching
*A small bit of honey in a pottery jar can be used, on animals that require grooming, to catch flies from them.
**Flies can be used as fishing bait

Shearing
* Shearing is another activity which gives animal husbandry skill.
** Activate scissors and select shear from the right-click menu on a sheep.
** Wool bundles are put directly into your inventory upon shearing.
*** Sheared wool weight seems to vary depending on age: Young 0.1kg, Adolescent 0.2kg, Mature 0.3kg, Aged 0.4kg, Old 0.5kg, Venerable 0.6kg.
** Shearing can be done while moving, so long as you do not move too far away (two tiles) from the tile you are currently working on.
** Shearing can not be done while mounted.
*At AH level 50, players can see if an animal is ready to shear wool and/or ready to milk using Inspect Animal.

Breeding
* To breed, lead one animal with a rope (or any item should it be wearing a bridle) and approach the second. When they are close enough together right click on the second animal and select the "Breed" option.
** Neither animal should be hungry.
** Animals do not have to be "fat" to breed, only "no longer interested in food" (when trying to feed them). Grass eaters will typically be in this state after a minute or 2 on grass or crops.
**If too hungry or low on fat animals can die when giving birth.
** Animals can have miscarriages which may kill the mother with no offspring spawned. Starvation, being off-deed, or being on a deed with an animal-to-tile ratio of 15 or less (see character > settlement > info to see current deed ratio) are known as the reasons for miscarriages.
** The creature ratio outside of deeds is always considered to be 10 which means more miscarriage and disease.
** Both animals should be of the same species, except in the case of horses and donkeys. When breeding a female horse and male donkey, the foal is a mule.
** Some animals require taming before being led; this does not apply to the second animal.
<!-- *Males will only breed once every 45 real minutes regardless of outcome. -- commented this for now as there could have been a silent change or bug -->
** Females will not breed while they are pregnant. Once the female gives birth, she will not be in mood for breeding for 24 real hours.
** Age is a factor in breeding: Juvenile animal types (calves, foals, lambs, and seal cubs) will not breed, neither will young/early adolescent animals. (Horses will breed at 25 rl days old)
** Pregnancy times varies from 5-11 Wurm weeks, regardless of species.
*** Examining the animal will show the remaining days left until birth; for example, inline This is approximately 4 days, or 4 Wurm weeks.
** At higher AH skill levels, examining the animal will show a more and more precise pregnancy timer.
*** Below AH skill level 45, it shows e.g.
*** At AH skill level 45, the timer becomes slightly more precise, e.g. inline
*** At AH skill level 50, the timer includes approximate hours, e.g. inline
*** At AH skill level 63, the timer becomes more exact, e.g. inline
** Breeding female animals with conditions such as Champion will provide a chance that the offspring will also have that characteristic. This chance is dramatically increased when breeding two animals with the same condition together. (Two Champions for example.)
** Breeding two animals with the same trait greatly increases the chance that the offspring will have the trait.
** The horse name is determined at birth, the traits are determined at breeding.
** The horse's color from birth is determined based on a combination of the mother's color, father's color, and random chance, similarly to traits.
** Breeding can be done while moving, so long as you do not move too far away (two tiles) from the tile you are currently working on.

Inbreeding
* Inbreeding occurs when an offspring is bred with either of its parents or a sibling. Inbreeding has an increased chance to pass bad traits if the parents have bad traits, but does not inherently create a bigger chance for bad traits in the offspring. Inbreeding may be unavoidable in small herds; it's advised to seek neighbours to begin a herd if one wishes to avoid inbreeding.
* Inbreeding does not occur past 1 generation. You can breed grandchildren of the same grandparents together with no inbreeding penalty.
** Important note: if an animal's parent is dead, the parent's name will no longer show up on examining the creature. The game, however, still keeps track of who the parent was.

Messages
; inline : breeding has failed, the male will not breed again for some time.
; inline : the male will not breed again for some time.
the animal may be hungry - feeding the animal will put it back in a breeding mood if this is the case
<!-- Changed the 45 minute suggestion due to this thread: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/112669-not-in-mood-cooldown-ah/ --- Need more information. -->

Traits
* Bred animals have a chance of gaining traits, some positive, some negative, some neutral. Animals may have multiple traits as seen in the table below. All traits are put into the gene pool when breeding and those of the parents will increase the chance of the offspring having the same. Should both parents have the same trait the likelihood of the offspring gaining that trait is even higher.
**The dominant category is picked from either the mother or the father randomly.
**If neither parent has traits, all categories of traits receive a bonus to seed the initial traits.
*The breeder's animal husbandry skill level affects the number of traits that will appear in a horse. Bred animals can also have no traits.
**Traits have point values which influence their chance to pass on and how many traits a bred animal recieves.
**Players are capped at their animal husbandry level's worth of points for creatures they have bred (80AH= 80 points of traits, for example).
**Inbreeding will now cause the max point value to be divided by 1.5.
**There is still a cap of 10 traits per creature (this does not include 0 point traits like bred in captivity).
* Traits fall into several categories:
**Speed: These traits will increase the speed of a creature when riding on them. These traits do not affect the speed of hitched animals.
**Draft: These traits will increase a creature’s carry weight. They will also now act as speed traits when hitched and give a speed bonus similar to having the speed traits.
**Combat: These traits increase how tough a creature can be and how well it can fight.
**Negative: These traits all have negative effects that are generally unwanted.
**Output: These traits increase results from butchering output, shearing, and milking.
**Miscellaneous: These traits don’t fit any other category. They may be positive or neutral traits.

Inspect Animal
*The ‘Inspect animal’ ability is gained at 10 Animal Husbandry skill.
*Players can see information about if an animal is hungry, breedable, and/or groomable.
*Use ‘Inspect animal’ on bred creatures to see traits.
**This displays all traits of a creature that you can see with your Animal Husbandry skill level. It also displays the categories of the traits you can’t normally see. With higher skill, you’ll be able to see other details in the Inspect animal window, such as time until a creature can be bred again, time until a creature can be groomed again, or whether a creature is hungry, or age of the creature.
*Players seem to be able to see when the animal is hungry, breedable, and groomable at an AH level below 50.
*At AH level 50, players can see if an animal is ready to shear wool and/or ready to milk and a more accurate pregnancy timer.
*At AH level 90, players can see the age of an animal in months and weeks.
To Care for a creature, stand next to it, right click, and select Care for.

When you start Caring for a creature this message will appear:

If the character is unable to Care for more creatures this message will appear:

The total number of creatures subject to Care for is limited primarily by the Animal husbandry skill of the character.
* 1 creature may be Cared for plus 1 additional for every 10 points in the Animal husbandry skill.
* 1 additional Care For slot may be purchased from the Loyalty program for 22,500 Marks or Silver store for 30 Silver (for a total adjusted Max of 12).

To stop caring for a specific creature right click the creature and select Care for.

You can also stop caring for a specific creature by right clicking on your inventory or body, then Manage>Animals.

The chat command /stopcaring will stop the player from caring for all creatures. This message will appear:
inline

Non-Premium characters can only initiate Care for on 1 creature regardless of their Animal husbandry skill.

If premium expires, the number of Cared for creatures remains static. Cared for creatures remain Cared for but the character may not change or initiate a new Care for until they re-premium.

NOTES

Care for does NOT prevent the creature from dying from any causes except old age. This includes deaths due to miscarriage, starvation, disease, or violence, whether from starving beasts, legendary creatures, or general combat, even if the creature is tamed.

* Hostile creatures must be tamed first before they can be Cared for or branded.
* The corpse of a Cared for creature can be hovered over with the mouse to see the creature's cause of death.
* A list of all the creatures Cared for may be listed by using the command /caringfor

Caring
To prevent Venerable creatures from dying of old age they may be Cared for. The creature will then live indefinitely at the Venerable stage.

* 1 additional Care For slot may be purchased from the Loyalty program for 22,500 Marks or Silver store for 30 Silver (for a total adjusted Max of 12.)

* It can be taken into inventory.
* It holds a snowball in its hands which can be removed and will later regenerate on its own at a rate of one per real-life day.
* The statue was made at 99ql and weighs 10kg.
* It can on rare occasions spawn a pearl or lump of steel instead of a snowball.
* Despite a right-click menu option seemingly allowing for it, the snowman cannot be dyed if the attempt is made.
Description
A bright white unicorn with a slender twisted horn.

Breeding
*Bred unicorns have individual (but not unique) names randomly chosen at birth. They can have traits affecting their speed and other characteristics.
*Bred unicorns have 2 foal stages (young foal and adolescent foal) before they grow to young unicorns.
*Traits have a chance to be inherited from the parents. Both parents having a trait will help but does not guarantee that trait will be passed on.

Notes
*Unicorns are significantly faster than normal horses.
*Unicorns can be tamed with seeds, mixed grass, and other vegetation. A taming skill of 35+ is recommended for this, although successful taming has been seen at a taming skill of 20.
*Can be ridden when tame up to venerable stage, and can also hold a passenger. The passenger mount does not require any body control.
*Can be hitched up until the last aged stage. However, unicorns will unhitch when they age up to Old at 30 months and become unruly.
*Can be hitched when tamed, but will unhitch if it becomes untamed.
*Will be attacked by carnivorous animals and mobs.
*Have a body strength of 30.
*Can be equipped with saddle, bridle, and horse shoes (made of gold, silver, electrum or empyrean only)
*Unicorns spawn on grass, steppe, and mycelium tiles.
*Unicorns are highly resistant to disease and starvation/hunger issues faced by other animals while living in less than ideal conditions. They can still suffer from these issues but typically take much longer to experience them due to triggering conditions than most other animals.

Main Page / Basic Knowledge / PAGENAME

Description
You are dead.

You die when your health reaches 0% or when the sum of all your wounds reaches 100. It is not possible to die (or get hurt) from hunger or thirst, but they do decrease your survivability.

When you die, you leave all your items and equipment on your corpse, except for those that are no-drop. This includes the beginners tools you get when you first start, deeds, contracts, any items you may have in a bag of keeping (BoK) or master bag of keeping (MBoK).

Your corpse
Normally, your corpse can only be looted by yourself, your friends, fellow citizens, and allies, or (on Epic) people of an enemy kingdom, depending on your corpse lootability settings. You can use the chat command /release corpse (with a space) to allow anyone from your kingdom to loot your corpse. If the corpse does not seem lootable after using the command, typing it a second time seems to actually release it.

Generally, your corpse will last around a real-life week on deed but 48 hours off deed. After that, it will decay and the items that were on it will be a pile of items on the ground where you died, and no longer protected. If your corpse is on a deed tile that does not allow picking up of items, it is possible that others may not be able to loot your corpse, even if you do release it. However, you always have the right to loot your own corpse.

Death penalty
You are halted on the way to the netherworld by a dark spirit, demanding knowledge.
The spirit touches you and you feel drained.

The main death penalty is skill loss, covered below. In addition, you also lose 15% food and water.

*When you die fighting a guard or creature (also known as PvE death) you will lose 0.25 points from 5 random skills, 0.25 fighting skill, 0.01 body, and 0.01 body strength. The body strength only updates every second death unless you log out. If you die inside your settlement, the penalty is only 0.025 points instead.

:*Suicide counts as a PvE death, but you do not get the penalty reduction for being at home.

*If you die with a bad reputation (lower than 0), you will lose more skill (amount unknown). In a 2 year old village, the skill loss is 0.6 from 5 random skills.

*When you die fighting another player (also known as PvP death) you will lose 0.25 points from the main fighting skill, 0.01 body, and 0.01 body strength. However, getting killed by Son of Nogumps seems to yield this effect as well.

:Exception: Skills that are above 99 are protected from this loss, excluding fighting and characteristics.

For all skills, except fighting, you will get 3x the normal skill tick values until you reach the original, highest skill value again.

Respawning
You are cast back into the light.

While dead, you will be on a red and black screen with a little box in the middle, you will have to choose where you want to respawn. If you are dead and you cannot see the little box, type /respawn in your chat window.

While you have no deed, you will only be able to spawn at your Kingdom start town, or the capital if you are a member of a player made kingdom. A tent, dropped before death, will also act as a respawn location upon death.

When you are the owner or citizen of a settlement, you will be able to spawn on or outside that settlement. If that settlement has any allies you will be able to spawn there also if you die within 50 tiles of their center. If the server you died on has a white light and black light, you are also able to spawn at the light belonging to your kingdom.

Death tab
You are able to see who has died on the server you currently are on, and show others that you have died. The default is on but can be turned off by going into profile and selecting hide for Participate in PvE Deaths tab on Dying and/or Ignore the PvE Deaths Tab. This will work on players with over 1.5 body skill on PvE servers and over 20 fighting skill.

Description
Titles are earned when a player reaches certain skill milestones. When a title is used players of the same kingdom can see the title in use by that player when hovering the mouse over the player. For a player to see their own title they should hover over their healthbar.

*Players can equip two titles in whichever order they desire.
**When a title has an effect on improving (for example, improving armour), only the first title has an effect.

*Chat commands:
** <tt>/title</tt>: displays the title currently in use
** <tt>/titles</tt>: gives the option to select an active title from those available

Known Skilling Titles
There are no titles for Favor nor Alignment.

100 Level Skill Titles
The first player to reach 100 in a skill gets to name the 100 title (within Wurm chat rules). These have been added to the titles table, though quite a few high achievers do not want to be mentioned by name, which the Wurmpedia respects.
PVP Titles
On the Chaos and Epic servers the leaders of each kingdom can appoint several offices to players of their choosing, some of which grant the holder special abilities or items, as well as a title. The number of titles a kingdom leader can grant is dependent on the kingdom's size (method of determination unknown) though there is a guaranteed minimum number.
Kingdom titles
The great (and not so great) kings of Wurm are ranked within the Kingdom History, which can be viewed on any settlement token. Titles that appear after kingdom leaders' names in a settlement token's Kingdom history. There are two known sets of titles, which combine to form the displayed title. One is gained from having a high/low kingdom expansion. The other is gained from a high/low success percentage, which is simply the number of levels (Offices) killed by said kingdom divided by the number of its offices killed by opposing kingdoms. Due to differences in scores, it is possible to have a title such as "_____ the Stupid Savior".

Legios: /* Skill titles */

Legios: there Is no need for ven state as it's an age that remains through the life of the animal until it dies.

Age plays an important role in two parts of Wurm:

Trees
When it comes to trees, age plays an important role in the yield of wood you will get from it. The age of a tree is: young, mature, old, very old, overaged, and shriveled. To examine the age of a tree, right-click the tile the tree is on and examine it. The age will show up in the event window.

Cutting down a young, mature, or old and shriveled tree will yield a very low amount of wood and will be a waste of a tree. The optimum time to cut down a tree is when is is old, very old, or overaged, with overaged yielding the most wood. Some overaged trees can be pruned to return them to very old status but still yield a high amount of wood. Shriveled trees are lost and will yield very low useful wood and cannot be pruned to maintain a useful age.

Creatures
When it comes to the ages of creatures, the ages are: young, adolescent, mature, aged, old, and venerable. Creatures take several Wurm months to reach the venerable stage. They will eventually die of old age, but most species have extremely long lifespans. One huge spider was observed alive after over six months of real time.

The following table shows a good estimate of each stage's duration, based on some research and testing for horses, but could well be applicable for all creature types.

Age
Real life days
Wurm weeks
Wurm months
Young (foal) || 3 days || 4 weeks || 1 months
Adolescent (foal) || 10.5 days || 12 weeks || 3 months
Young || 7 days || 8 weeks || 2 months
Adolescent || 17.5 days || 20 weeks || 5 months
Mature || 14 days || 16 weeks || 4 months
Aged || 63 days || 72 weeks || 18 months
Old || 35 days || 40 weeks || 10 months

Creature age affects its size and running speed, and older animals will have increased fighting capabilities. Aged animals have been reported to be the fastest around, especially aged huge spiders; anything younger or older will be slower than aged.

Notes
Armour protects by increasing glance rates and reducing damage taken from hits. The damage taken can be calculated by multiplying the damage that would be taken with no armour with a multiplier. The multiplier is given by the following equation;
multiplier = (modifier * ql * ql) / 200000 - (modifier * ql) / 1000 + 0.95,
where ql is the armour quality (if the quality is below 2, it is counted as 2) and the modifier is given for the armour types below:
Armour for your body, so you won't get injured as severely when being hit in combat or otherwise. Drake hide is the best leatherworking based armour existing in Wurm.

It's highly valued for its rarity, extremely light weight, and superior protection properties. Its defense rating equals that of steel plate armour. It has the lowest penalty to walking and attack speed after cloth armour. Unencumbered, you can reach walking speeds of 15.70 km/h on roads. It provides a damage reduction of 70 % at 100 quality.

You will need to use a needle on a piece of drake hide of sufficient weight. Drake hide can now only be obtained by being in Local range, and having premium time, when a dragon hatchling is being slain. Drake hide can be traded with other players, and the pieces can be combined. Drake hide armour is very difficult to create and to improve.

Drake hide armour is often worn with a steel great helm instead, because a drake hide cap does not protect your face and eyes, and face wounds always cause high amounts of damage.
