The spirit of a proud knight has decided to protect this place.

PAGENAME is an NPC that protects your settlement (=>Deed guard). Unlike tower guards, deed guards do not respond to calls for help.
Hiring
Settlements start with no deed guards. If you want to hire one or more, you have to pay a one-time fee of 2 silver and an upkeep cost of 1 silver per month per guard. Note that the payment happens continuously in small increments, not one big payment once a month.

If a deed guards is killed by a creature it will re-spawn; you will not have to hire another.

Fighting Skill
Heavy deed guards have over 60 fighting skill, which makes them stronger than tower guards.

Guards attack players from an enemy kingdom. By default, they will also attack aggressive monsters that enter the settlement area. You can turn this behavior off from the deed setting "Mark this if you want guards to ignore aggressive creatures". They will still attack any player with -30 or lower reputation. Negative reputation is automatically earned when stealing, or otherwise breaking the settlement rules.

Citizens with the manage roles permission can also set reputations manually.
*Tip: Set your own reputation to +100, so your own guards will not attack you even if you happen to go outlaw.
Getting ready:
*It's advisable to begin with a minimum skill of 20 in Woodcutting. (More is always better...)
*The wood type of the last wooden item attached to a ship will determine the wood type of the finished ship. For example, attaching a cedar peg as the last wooden item will make the ship a cedar ship. For this reason your primary wood type for your ship should be whatever tree is most convenient or abundantly found as you can choose the ship's wood type at the end.
*Currently cedar decays slower than any other wood type in game, therefore it is best to ensure that the finished boat/ship is made of cedar. (This has been confirmed with all wood types including Oak.)

Note: As with all improving actions, you can improve up to a range slightly higher than your current skill of the action you are performing.
For example: If you have a Ship Building skill of 3 you can improve seats up to a quality of 13).
Eep, Noooo!
*I've found it far faster and easier to grind Shipbuilding with Oars. Do seats to 10, then make 10 oars. Imp those 10x oars to 15 QL, do them one by one, not in batches. You'll hit 15 skill. Imp them to 20, and you'll be around 20 skill.

Keep this up as long as you can stand it. If your skill begins falling behind, add more oars into the rotation. Doing it this way, you hit the sweet spot of gaining skill, by constantly having oars QL around your skill level. You can also reduce the QLs of the oars by throwing them into a BSB to equalize and lower them all and stay in the sweet spot for a far longer period of time.

Libilas: Fix, Dont put cleanup if it doesnt need it.

A quick 'Exploring For Newbies' page, outlining some of the items which may help you survive your first off-path wilderness exploring.

The goals of this is to:
* Suggest some necessary items to carry
* Try to fit everything in under ~20kg to maximize movement speed, and minimize stamina loss.

Things You Need
All actions in Wurm revolve around stamina. If you've just started out, you'll actually have less than older, experienced players even though the bar will look the same.

You will need the following:
* Food Items, such as Casserole, which is easy for new players to make. Note that this does not provide a lot of nutrition.
* A container for water. Good Choices might be Water skin, Flask or a Jar. The latter two can be created by anyone with access to clay and fire. a water skin can be created with leather, which may be difficult to make at the start.

Things to Heal Yourself
Eventually, you WILL get attacked by something. And even if you get away, you'll probably get banged up. Some type of medical supplies would be good to carry around. Some suggestions:

* Cotton is probably the best. Derivatives also work, such as string, rags, and cloth tailoring items such as Cloth Gloves, sheet of cloth, even Sails. The important factor is the Quality Level, or QL of the item. Also cotton can now be botanized while exploring.
* Healing Covers - Components for HC's can also be botanized, which every character can do without tools.

Useful Tools
Most vets on Freedom carry a boatload of tools with them wherever they go. But they also have armor, weapons, and skills to defend themselves. For a new player, you won't have the strength to both carry lots of tools and escape spiders, etc. Here's a list of useful tools when traveling:

* Hatchet for cutting down trees, making kindling. Small axes work and double as a weapon, but for the most part, you should use your short sword.
* Steel and Flint for making fires to cook food, and seeing in the dark. Also useful for lighting torches if you happen to find some moss.
* Rope probably one of the most useful tools for newbies. With a rope, you can lead + eventually ride a horse (Assuming you have or can get the 21 Body Control )

Extraneous Useful Tools
If you find you can still move around with all the stuff above at about 15-17km/h on a flat run, AND want to carry some other useful things, here's some ideas:

* Fence parts - For making ladders, or impromptu enclosures to escape alligators and the like. (Remember to make a gate)
* Pickaxe - If you're going through heavily mountainous terrain, you may consider carrying one to mine rocks for stone wall ladders to climb the mountain (Link to pictures?).

* Butchering Knife - For gathering Healing Cover parts off of deer, pigs and such.

* Shovel - For flattening & digging very steep places that are mostly dirt. The idea is just to flatten it so you won't slip, not to flatten to flat. Also if you are close to the water table, but nowhere near water, you can dig down to water. Very useful.

* Carving Knife & Saw - With them you can fashion all the Wooden Fence parts (Excluding nails), and other tools such as mallets, carts, etc.

Survival Tips from a Seasoned Spelunker
*Always know which way is north. A compass is a very useful tool.
* Read up on the moons of wurm. Valrei and Jackal are handy if you can discern which way they're currently moving.
* The only dangerous animals to cross water are brown bears, crocodiles and anacondas. All other aggressive animals will stop at the shore. Use this to your advantage.
* Always try to maintain 1/2 stamina. Try for 3/4 until you learn how to 'lose' aggressive critters. When running you'll be surprised how quickly you can run out of stamina, and for a new player that often leads to death. You should also always run on cobblestone or slab, because doing so will cause you to run faster, thus increasing chances of escape.
* Water damage from drowning will fix itself once you rest for abit on land. Also, STOP MOVING when you take drowning damage - the damage applies randomly as you're moving, and you move slower when having the Hurt status. Wait a few for the status to vanish, you want to be moving as fast as possible in this state. Also: if you're near the edge of water but can't climb out to safety due to it being too steep last gasp will allow you to climb for a minute to safety.
* Learn the different ranges for that aggressive monsters will notice you at. Other modifiers such as 'alert', or 'slow' change this somewhat.
* If you are completely lost, do not panic. Walk until you reach water, and look for landmarks.
* The easiest way to find North or South is to type /weather, get the wind direction, and look at a grass tile. The way the grass is being blown will give the direction the wind is blowing. You should be able to work out the direction of North or South from this.

And the final tip:
* Be prepared to lose EVERYTHING you are carrying if you do this. Often finding the exact place you died is difficult, even for seasoned adventurers and can take hours. Don't carry anything you can't stand to lose.

Description
You see large entwined fungus roots on rotten grass.

Mycelium is the taint of Libila manifesting on the land.

Growth
Mycelium grows in three ways.

# An altar of Libila will create mycelium on randomly chosen tiles within its influence. This way is needed to start a mycelium patch, but drops in efficiency as more and more tiles picked already are infected.
# Existing mycelium spreads to nearby tiles much the same way grass and flowers spread.
# A priest/champion of Libila can cast Fungus to spawn mycelium.
Mycelium requires Libila or HotS influence to grow and survive. If both are missing, the mycelium will start disappearing extremely slowly.

Mycelium can grow on these tiles:
* Grass
* Trees (Infected "tree type" tree)
* Dirt
* Packed Dirt (It is best to pack dirt tiles to slow growth.)

Mycelium turns to dirt if you dig on it.

Uses
Blacklighters can absorb mycelium by right-clicking it and selecting the option absorb. This action takes about 10 seconds. By doing this they are able to cure a random wound for 7 damage(NOTICE: it heals not damages.). They then need to wait 30 seconds for the next wound to be healed. The mycelium tile is destroyed in the process. Mycelium can also be used to heal disease through numerous consecutive absorption actions. This feature is weakly documented and may be subject to change or other factors.

Due to the way mycelium grows, consuming tiles in a checkerboard pattern provides optimal regrowth.

Mycelium also restores the food bar of followers of Libila over time while they're standing on it. The increase is approximately the same as the normal decrease from hunger.

A follower of Libila with high enough faith gets a reduced stamina drain while travelling on mycelium tiles. This is believed to happen at 30 faith.
The Altar of Three can only be found only on the Chaos and Elevation servers, and is the home of Fo, Magranon and Vynora. Its evil counterpart is the Bone Altar.

A large white light shines upon it, which is visible from most of the server.

The domain generated is for Fo.

The Altar of Three can be used for converting between religions and the white light kingdoms, becoming a priest, and becoming a champion.

Epic cluster
On Epic, the destruction of the Altar of Three is one of the goals in the war between the whitelight kingdoms of Jenn-Kellon and Mol-Rehan and the blacklight kingdom of Horde of the Summoned. It is rumoured that destroying a great altar requires your followers to have more then 5000 faith in total. The break altar spell or the Gold Sceptre of Ascension can be used to destroy an altar.

The effects of destroying the Altar of Three are as documented on September, 21st 2009. These were learned from the results of a bug, and may be subject to future changes:

* A server-wide event message : The Altar of Three has fallen! A new era begins!
* Removal of the ability to become a WL priest or champion by using the White Light.
** The Freedom method of using a priest with high faith (40+) to convert a follower with 30 faith to a priest was still possible.
* All WL priests, champions, and followers with faith had their faith halved. This effectively removes all current WL champions.
* Destruction of all WL altars currently on the map.
** Stone and wood altars could be rebuilt, gold and silver could be blessed and were functional after the WL destruction. Faith could be regained.

The effects of destroying the Bone Altar are as follows (these were learned from the results of a bug, and may change):

* Removal of the ability to become a BL priest or champion.
* Removal of all BL priests and champions.
* Removal of all BL Altars.

Look at you. Pitiful creature. You seek the powers of the Whisperer? They may be available. I am the Hate and the Deceit, but know that I will help you much. Know that I want revenge for the betrayal by the others. This is why the scythe is my symbol. Become my tool and my weapon. Let me sharpen you, and let me run you trough the heart of my enemies. For this I will reward you greatly. You will be given powers beyond normal mortal possibilities. Exact my revenge anywhere, anytime and anyhow. Make it painful and frightening. Together, let us enter the Forbidden Lands. We are all in our right to do so! Let us grow together, and throw our enemies into the void! Are you ready to join the Horde of the Summoned? Know that if you choose not to, you are against me!

Notes
* You cannot place a deed or guard tower within the Holy Ground that covers the Bone Altar
* There was originally a Bone Altar on the Wild server, before it was moved to the Freedom kingdom, and renamed as Chaos.
