Thyrh arrived in [[Golden Valley (server)|Golden Valley]] (on 24 February 2012). He was rather disoriented, drifting between consciousness and unconsciousness as he progressed through his assigned missions, often failing to recall even receiving the instructions he had been given. His vision was blurred and sporadic. He often just wandered blindly forward in the direction his instincts led him. Somehow, he was finally able to stumble into the portal which transported him to [[Freedom003|Exodus]].

(After installing a memory upgrade) Thyrh was much better oriented on [[Freedom003|Exodus]], but his problems were not over as he kept wandering into the claws and jaws of the local wildlife surrounding [[Esert]] which were plentiful on that day. Although he was not a religious man, the gods were patient with him, and granted him resurrection each time he was torn to shreds. They even allowed him to stumble upon his corpse every time save one - where he fell into a steep-sided mining pit which had previously captured a young [[lava fiend]].

Leaving his paltry sum of belongings with his corpse (which seemed a fortune to the young adventurer), he decided to change tactics. He would remain close to [[Esert]] for the time being, establishing a safe base where he could improve both his skills and his familiarity with the terrain of [[Freedom003|Exodus]]. He recalled a location he had seen which appeared to be an abandoned homestead. He had passed this site several times over the previous (three game) days - which seemed several weeks to him. Although there was no signs of active development, it had a decent [[forge]] near some [[Floor board|floor boards]] and an empty [[large barrel]] - all which required minor repairs. The location was just off the southern perimeter boundary of [[Esert]] at the eastern edge of the '''Calhadras''' range. Existing rock and iron mines were close by, and water was not far. Thyrh chose this to be his first homesite.

Thyrh: Updated to provide a Wurmpedia user profile

==Background==
Sadly enough, I am old enough to have played [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong| Pong] on a brand-new [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600| Atari 2600] system, and yet I still play video games. I don't pretend to understand what continues to draw me back to these pixelated logic systems. I just know that I enjoy them (too much). Even though I spend most of my waking hours away from consoles and keyboards, curiosity lures me in - time and again.

I have enjoyed playing several varieties of MMOs over the years - everything from browser-based games to full game clients. After a while I tend to drift away. Nevertheless, I eventually continue my search for new games which will capture my interest for a bit longer.

I have participated in a number of wikis as well. A few were centered on game documentation. Others served wider communities. I hope my experiences on them will produce positive results in the ''Wurmpedia'' community.

==''Wurm Online'' experiences==
I had tried loading ''Wurm Online'' onto my laptop in 2010. I was only able to get it working well enough to experience several client crashes within the [[Golden Valley (server)|Golden Valley]] tutorial area. I decided it was unplayable on my hardware, and finally removed it from the hard drive.

In 2011 - as Windows XP continued to expose its true identity as bloatware - I decided to try the Lubuntu OS (a Ubuntu linux derivative) on my laptop. I found it was still a very capable machine. When I eventually ran across ''Wurm Online'' once again. I decided to give it a second try.

After a successful load, I started playing my [[Player:Thyrh|Thyrh]] character on February 24, 2012. As I continued to learn the game, I used the Wurmpedia wiki more and more. I began to find some areas needing updating, and other areas which had not been fully developed. I finally registered for a wiki user account on April 2.

My current character list includes:

==''Wurmpedia'' experiences and goals==
I hope that my participation will improve wiki usability. As of June 2012, I have been able to assist in reducing the [[Special:SpecialPages|Special pages]] maintenance reports substantially by just "filling in the blanks" so to speak. I was able to dedicate a bit of time in clearing up the [[Special:WantedPages|Wanted pages]] listing by making prodigious use of the [[Undefined player]] and [[Undefined settlement]] pages which had been fortuitously written by [[User:Gaeron|Gaeron]]. I then began to settle a few of the missing image issues created on that page by template coding; the final solution became simply hard-coding each image name into the referring pages. This has been quite a task, but I began to notice some of these pages were already resolved. [[User:KaiH|KaiH]] had come to the rescue, and had been taking on the same task (Hooray!).

Now that the ''Special pages'' is beginning to draw to a close, I have been looking at what else I might contribute to the wiki. This has lead me to notice that our ''Community portal'' and ''Help'' areas would benefit from some updating and modifications. My goal here would be to improve usability by all ''Wurmpedia'' users. As we improve the ''Wurmpedia'' experience for readers and editors, I expect our admins might find their task loads should be lessened. A better educated wiki community should be easier to administrate than a mob of unguided keypunchers (I hope).

The web server has a function that, when there is a page that has multiple copy but all ending with a language code (ex.: index.html.en, index.html.fr, index.html.fr-CH, index.html.es) then it returns the file that match the language of the browser. It isn't turned on by default.

That would be possible if we asked Egal to make a script that does it. For example there is a wiki.php script which is executed when the user clicks "Wiki" in the menu, instead of going straight to the wiki, then the wiki.php script finds the language and redirects the user onwards to the real wiki.

The web server has a function that, when there is a page that has multiple copy but all ending with a language code (ex.: index.html.en, index.html.fr, index.html.fr-CH, index.html.es) then it returns the file that match the language of the browser. It isn't turned on by default.

I don't think that would work with the wiki - it would do a different index.php file for each language, what we want is a different page in the wiki database, and that has to be done by passing a different parameter to the script, not by finding a different index.php file. --[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 01:55, 18 June 2006 (CDT)

Today I made a signature generator for my Wurm fansite.

You can choose a background image, add some text and put some dynamic text in. At the moment you have three choices for dynamic text: number of players on home server, number of players on wild server or number of players on all the servers.

It might be slightly off to what you see on [http://www.wurmonline.com www.wurmonline.com] because it only updates every 5 minutes.

The front page isn't very dynamic, so I was thinking that adding a featured page system would be an excellent way to make it seem more interesting and attractive. We could probably shift it once a week or so, and draw attention to lesser known concepts that the Community would benefit from, as well as new players. Perhaps the translations would be better put in a sidebar for example, or a literal translation de-emphasised in favour of a general overview of the game in various world languages. Indeed. Some translations are there, but others are simply links to Google translate, and do not provide much help to the players. I think what it's suggesting is that you copy and paste the main page into the translation field, but I don't see why people who commonly frequent English-language websites but speak it poorly would not do this already. I would like to propose adding Volume and Capacity to the item template. Capacity would apply only to containers (removed from other items) and would be the capacity of the container in liters. Volume would be the volume of the item, also in liters.

A small stone wall. Better for defensive purposes than the [[wooden fence]], yet still weaker than [[tall stone wall]]. Small stone walls are a good way to get your [[masonry]] skill up, and are relatively easy for even a new player to build, requiring no iron or other resources to create.

An unfinished wall will start at 1QL. Each rock shards adds up to 10% of its quality value to the wall. The actual amount is random but with higher skill you'll get the maximum per shards more often. The masonry skill also limits the effective shard QL.
