Sandstone shards can be used to make [[sandstone brick]]s, which is used in [[paving]] and building house [[walls]]. They are also used to create [[sandstone slab]]s.

Shards can be discarded by right-clicking, and selecting 'Discard'. This will dispose of them immediately.
