You receive these guards when you set the upkeep of the village/homestead to low. Setting the upkeep higher will get you more and stronger guards. The greater the size of the village, the more guards it will have. A single spirit guard is not strong enough to take on a [[Huge Spider]], however they can take on weak enemies such as [[Mountain lion]]s, [[Black Wolf|Black Wolves]], and [[Brown Bear]]s.
