Namespaces
What is a namespace
A namespace is a section of the wiki dedicated to different sorts of topics or functionalities. They help organize the wiki and keep things easy to follow and understand.
All namespaces begin with the namespace’s name followed by a colon, except for the main namespace. For example, Template:ItemBox is in the Template namespace.

Moving pages
If an article is found under the wrong namespace, you can move it to the appropriate one. To do this, click on the drop down arrow found to the right of “View history” at the top.

From here, you will see a drop down menu containing all the namespaces available. Select the appropriate one, rename the article if necessary (for example, main namespace article titles should only capitalize the first letter unless it is a proper noun). Next, be sure to deselect “leave a redirect behind”, as pages away from the main namespace should rarely have redirects to them. You can write a reason for moving the article, then click move page.

Before you’re done, make sure to check pages that linked to its old location. These links should be changed to the new location unless they are on the main namespace, in which case they can usually be removed completely. See this link to check which pages link to an article: https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Special:WhatLinksHere
Patrols
Edits made by editors all get marked with a red exclamation point meaning they need to be patrolled. A patrol is checking an edit for:
* Vandalism
* Assumption, personal thoughts, feelings, inaccuracy
* Spelling mistakes
* Proper article titles
** Proper casing (matching ingame casing or all lowercase)
* New articles - are they necessary?
** Creating redirect links for every possible mixture of uppercase and lowercase is not necessary
* Markup errors
* Broken links
* Talk page comments (sometimes an editor or user may post information about an article that needs research or updating)
How to patrol
* Click “Recent changes” on the left sidebar.

* Look for pages that haven’t been patrolled, indicated by a red exclamation point. To check what the edit was, click “diff” – this will show their edit compared to what was on the page before their edit. Note: some edits can’t be patrolled this way (new articles, redirect pages) - see Notes section.

* Review the edit. The left column shows the parts of the article as they used to be before the edit. The right column shows the changes that were made. Anything removed is indicated with a minus sign before the line, with yellow highlighting showing which words were removed. On the right, anything added is shown with a plus sign with blue highlighting.

* After reviewing for vandalism, accuracy, spelling, etc, and if you find the edit to be good, click “Mark as patrolled”. If you don’t find the edit satisfactory, inform the Wurmpedia Manager or Assistant Wurmpedia Manager. If you are unsure, ask other members of the team (for example, if you feel the edit was not accurate, ask if another assistant may know), and do not mark the edit as patrolled.

Viewing older history
At the top of the Recent changes page are some options on what edits are shown. Here is a little information on some important options:
* Show last (50/100/250/500) changes – Click one of the numbers to change how many edits will appear. Note that if you have other options set (eg, changes in last 1 day), you may not see 500 edits appear!
* …changes in last (1/3/7/14/30) days – Click one of these to change how far back you’ll see the edits.
** Tip: the URL changes when you click these things. If you want to increase the numbers, you can change them in the URL!

*Hide patrolled edits – click “hide” to hide the edits already patrolled – it will change to “show patrolled edits” to toggle it back.
Notes
Some articles can’t be patrolled in the way above; for example, new articles and edits to redirect pages.
New articles are specified by an N. The “diff” in this case is not available since there is no history to compare it to. Instead, click on the link to the article. Here you’ll find a link that says “Mark as patrolled” toward the bottom of the article.

Uploading images
New images
* If the image does not currently exist, or you need a separate image file (eg: a picture of a grey horse and a separate one of a black horse to create a gallery), you can upload a new file. Find a link to "Upload file" under Tools on the side bar

* You’ll be taken to the Upload file page. Click the Choose File button, then find the file from your computer to upload. The file name will fill in with the name of the image you upload. You can change the name in the “Destination filename:” text box.

Note: Keep note of the filename (eg: File:Horseshoe.jpg), as you will need it to insert the image in articles. You will usually be required to include the ‘ File: ‘ portion as well. There are some examples of how to insert an image given at the top of the upload file page, as you can see in the image above.
New version of existing image
* Go to the image’s page (the image is in the File namespace if you know the name, but a quicker way is to click the image from the article page)

* Click "Upload a new version of this file" -- This will change the image associated with this filename, which will change the image on all pages that refer to this file type. If you scroll down a bit, you'll see which pages link to the file (found under File usage)

** NOTE: When updating an image, the file type must be the same as the original (in the example here, the file type is PNG - you cannot upload a JPG instead of a PNG in this case).
* When you click Upload a new version of this file, you'll be taken here:

**Note, the page you're taken to looks a lot like the upload a new file page does, but you'll notice the destination filename is already filled in here.
*Once here, click the "Choose File" button, and locate your image on your computer. Click OK, then Upload file at the bottom when you're ready.
** After that, the file page will show your image as the latest revision, and (hopefully) show up top as the main image.
** NOTE: if it doesn't, don't worry - just a little wiki bug - it will eventually sort itself out.
** NOTE 2: If you want to see the article containing your image updated, you can go to the article and hit Edit > Show Preview > Save changes - gives the page a little kick. You can also try clearing your cache (but I don't believe this works?)

Hidden pages
An assistant may hide an article, preventing anyone with lower permissions than assistants from viewing and editing the article. This is ideal for adding new items to the wiki before they are added to the game, so as not to give spoilers about the item’s features.
* Only logged in users of Assistant or higher may view or edit the article.
* Creation and edit summaries still show up in Recent changes; however, anyone without permission cannot view the specifics of the edits (just the article title, manual summary notes, and the other details from recent changes)
To hide a page, simply add to the article. Remember to remove this once it is ready for the public!
Note: Do not use this feature when editing articles. Keep in mind that Wurmians use the Wurmpedia constantly, and should always have access to current articles. If you wish to use it on a current article for a specific reason, speak with management first. Otherwise, only use this for creating new articles.
If you come across a page with this tag, do not edit unless given permission from the person who is working on it. Too many hands in the cookie jar means no one can reach the cookies!
