*An abutment is a structure made from [[stone bricks]] and [[mortar]] built to support the lateral pressure of an arch or span of a [[brick bridge]]. It is the section found at each end of the bridge.
*An abutment can be made for any type of bridge: marble, pottery, rendered, rounded stone, sandstone, slate, or stone brick.
*An abutment will include 0, 1 or 2 walls - depending of the total width of the bridge.
