Village Info

Sheerfall is currently an empty deed being held for nostalgic value. It resides at 46x, 47y on the Community Map, east of Crystal Lake.

In its former glory, Sheerfall was known for its 'initiation' ritual, where prospective villagers were made to battle a champion troll. This tradition stemmed from the founders early days of dying to trolls on a daily basis.

Village History

~The village of Sheerfall was originally founded in June of 2009~

In the early days of The Independence server, a small band of newbies from Golden Valley embarked on an adventure. With little knowledge of what lay before them, Arson, Mystecore, Hordeoriginal, Denzi, Ilerndgramrgud, Quaker and Vertsorbene stepped through the portal to the Freedom Isles, taking only what little possessions they could carry.

Arriving at Samling the group were struck in awe at the scale of the world around them. Immediately though, they set about preparations for the journey ahead. Mystecore had been in talks with a local ship merchant prior to their arrival, securing them a basic rowboat. This however, could only seat three of them and would not suffice. Hastily, a cry was put out for the purchase of materials with which to construct a sailboat: the needed rig was obligingly received from a kindly Urman in short order. This however, proved to be the first of many errors stemming from the groups inexperience. Even if they could somehow build the sailboat in time, none of them had the required skill to pilot such a vessel. Their carefully plotted plans fast going astray, the group were forced to call upon the services of an old friend of Mystecore’s, Llurendt, who had crossed over and settled some days before. Llurendt generously offered to sail the remaining travellers south down the central ‘Inner Sea’ while Arson, Quaker and Verstorbene made their way along the east coast by rowboat. With a plan in action the two groups set sail, hoping to make up for lost time.

At this point the two groups experienced some of the world’s most interesting scenery; Arson and his team followed a long and rugged coastline past huge tundra’s, steep coastal cliffs and untraversable marshes; while Mystecore and his fellows were awed by the spectacle of ‘Dragon Fang’, a fantastic spire which dominated the landscape. While admiring these, the group thought it a good opportunity to vote on which of them should be appointed mayor of the planned village, by a majority of one, Mystecore was awarded the prestigious title. After a couple of hours, Llurendt’s ship arrived at its destination, a strip of land which divided the central waterway from the Crystal Lake to the east. Unexpectedly, this small strip of land turned out to be a formidable ridge. This would prove a challenge.

Saying their goodbyes and thanks to Llurendt, the men began their ascent on the ridge. Bearing the combined weight of their tools and supplies, progress was at a snail’s pace. Mystecore, still carrying the purchased sailboat rig, struggled as his comrades took it in turns to pass along barrels, armour, tools, weapons and food. For two hours they climbed, fell, advanced and were beaten back by the ridge and its dangerous wildlife. Eventually, victoriously, they reached the plateau. Sweating and out of breath, the men exchanged relief and congratulations, this was short lived however. The lands of Freedom were in this time still untamed and wild, vast tracts of forested wilderness heaved with life and dangers: and not five minutes after reaching the plateau, these dangers showed their prescence. Mystecore, bogged down by the weight of his rig, was an obvious prey for the troll. The huge green beast came thundering at him from the woods, its muscular frame built for speed and strength. With one arm raised it battered him with a huge shod club, near crippling him in one fell swoop. ‘Troll!’ he cried, barely avoiding a second bashing. The others turned to help, but Mystecore was already running, having ditched the heavy rig. Bravely, Ilerndgramrgud ran to intercept the beast and was joined by Hordeoriginal. The troll struck Mystecore once more, badly injuring his leg, before turning its attention on Ilerndgramrgud. Ilernd ran, leading the green brute away from his wounded companion, while Horde frantically began healing Mystecore’s leg. Panicked and disoriented, Denzi yelled the retreat as Horde and Myste ran for the eastern shore of the ridge. Stumbling down, the trio landed at the water’s edge badly bruised and fatigued. Ilernd, in his valiant attempt at distraction, was chased backwards though, and plummeted back down the ridge’s western side to where the group had begun the climb.

Abandoning Ilernd to his fate, the group continued south-east (after ‘borrowing’ an unattended rowboat) where they rendezvoused with Arson’s sailing party (who had enjoyed a lengthy six hour rowboat trip). It was here on a small stretch of woodland on the eastern shore of Crystal Lake, that the party decided to explore inland for a suitable site. Weary from the long journey, Mystecore bowed out to rest, leaving Arson the responsibility to found the village. Over the next few hours, the remaining men battled an array of beasts and monsters whilst traversing the steep slopes and thick vegetation. Finally, after a full day of blood, sweat and heart-thumping close encounters, the village of Sheerfall was founded on a small ledge some halfway up the hillside.

The following day the villagers decided that their choice of location had been made in haste (largely due to the presence of a few dozen spiders and trolls). A courier was dispatched for another form and an expedition made towards the summit of the mountainside. Here, the men once again braved the dangers of the land, narrowly escaping death on numerous occasions, and dying several more. By the afternoon however, Sheerfall was re-founded.

Sheerfall disbanded in May 2010.

Sheerfall was re-founded by the original owner of Mystecore (Darkmalice) on his alt, Darkblood. Jun 23, 2011, 4:47:22 PM Darkblood founded Sheerfall
