The [[gender]] of a [[Wurm]] [[player]] is either male or female. Gender is chosen at initial [http://register.wurmonline.com/ registration]. Gender may at one time could be changed to female using the [[chat command]] <tt>/gofemale</tt> in Wurm, but it cannot could not be reversedand the command is no longer valid. There is a (mostly) different [[emote]] package for female characters.
Gender has no importance at all for character [[skills]] and status; gender is only cosmetic.
