New Player's Guide

First of all, welcome to the world of Wurm Online! Wurm Online is not like an ordinary MMORPG. In fact it is not even an MMORPG - it is a new genre of games - MMOFS. Massivly Multiplayer Online Fantasy Simulation.

The world of Wurm starts of with no towns/villages, buildings or any signs of civilization. That's up to you - you have to build the towns. You can even form the land by digging and moving dirt. You could even move a whole mountain (given lots of time).

Logging into Wurm

First of all you are going to have to start the client. For this you are going to need a fairly modern graphics card and Java.

Java can be downloaded here. More information on this is on the Wurm Online Home Page.

Once you are ready click the "Launch" button. Then wait.

First thing you will probably want to change some settings. Click "Options". On an old/bad system you should turn all the options down to the lowest possible and deselect all the checkboxes with extra features. It is best to try low and if it works go higher.

Once it has finished downloading the packs, choose a username and password - there is no "register" button at the time of writing, just input the username and password you want then click Play.

If you get an error message here your system will not work with the settings you selected or will not work with Wurm at all.

Once the black screen has turned into a white screen you will see the introduction to the game (this only appears once). Read it - it may help you!

Then you will see the news. You may wish to read this to see updates of the game.

And now you are in the world of Wurm Online!

NewTown

You are in the center of NewTown. NewTown is the starting town for all newcomers to the game. It has a trader and a bartender. You cannot build or do many other actions in NewTown because it is protected by a deed. If you want to you have to go unlawful and risk being killed by the guards.

First of all you are going to need some food. Food will help you regain energy quickly and let you perform certain actions. On the right hand side of the interface you will see an orange bar. This shows how hungry you are. When it is full you are bloated, when it is empty you are starving!

Since you cannot do many actions in NewTown it is best to start travelling away from NewTown. Choose a direction and start walking!

= Movement

There are two ways of moving in Wurm - WASD and arrowkeys. Both are covered in the guide.

WASD

W: Forward S: Backwards A: Strafe Left D: Strafe Right

Arrowkeys

Up: Forward Down: Backwards Left: Turn Left Right: Turn Right

Common Controls

X: Autowalk (press X to stop again) C: Centre the screen

Woodcutting

So now you've learnt how to walk the first thing you will want to find is wood. Try walking and find a tree. Once you've found one we are going to open your inventory. Press F3 to open the inventory window.
